The
Rollei 35 is one of the best kept secrets in 35mm photography. It is a very
quirky camera. The biggest drawback is no rangefinder: you have to estimate the
distance to your subject and/or set a large depth of field. Not the best for
low light. Also, the film loads upside down, so the frame numbers turn
out in reverse order. For some photographers, though, these quirks are
well worth it. The compact size is great for spontaneous shots. Fully manual
settings, and a Zeiss lens comparable to a Leica costing hundreds, if not
thousands more, make this a great camera. Although collectors are becoming more
interested in these cameras, you can still find one for $200-300 used.
